About Inner Mongolia Normal University
Foundedin 1952, Inner Mongolia Normal University is one of the earliest universitiesestablished in the frontier minority ethnic area by the Chinese government. Asa key university established in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, InnerMongolia Normal University is an important center toraise teachers for primaryeducation, minority ethnic education, and to train comprehensive talents whospeak both Mongolian and Chinese. It also serves as a training center forsecondary school teachers, a continuing education center for primary andsecondary school teachers, and a research center for the development and reformof basic education and minority education. IMNU thus earned the honor of beingregarded as “the cradle of minority ethnics’ education”.
Composedof Saihan Campus and Shengle Campus, IMNU presently covers a total area of over3800 acres (approx. 626 Sq.km), with building area of 1.000.000 square meters.The total value of fixed assets reaches 1.97 billion RMB, among which, teachingfacilities and equipment amounts to 450 million RMB. The university library hasa rich collection of 2.5 million volumes, 800,000 kinds of digital books, and100 TB storage space.
Theuniversity has more than 2400 teachers and staff members, including more than 1,400full-time teachers, with 71% of them having a Master’s degree or a Doctor’sdegree, and 45% of them have senior titles, 746PH.D,for doctors’ and master’sdegree candidates. Inner Mongolia Normal University has 22 functional offices,36subordinate colleges and 1 independent college, and 3 teaching-research sections.At present, the university enrolls over 30,000 full-time undergraduatestudents, 4200 graduate students, 7,100 students in adult education programsand 300 international students.
The University offers 77 undergraduate programscovering 10 discipline categories. The university offers 2 doctoral and 24 master’sdegree programs in first-level disciplines, 4 doctoral and 131 master’s degreeprograms in second-level disciplines, 1 rotating post-doctoral station,and 10professional master’s degree programs. IMNU also has the project of exemptingrecommended postgraduate candidates from admission exam. The university houses91 scientific research institutions, 6 provincial level key laboratories, 2provincial level college key laboratories, and 1 college key laboratory base;provincially, it has 4 college key research bases in humanities and socialsciences, 1 philosophy and social science research base, 1 engineeringtechnology research center, 1 engineering laboratory, 1 engineering researchcenter , and 1 academician workstation.
Adheringto opening-up policy and enhancing international exchanges, IMNU hasestablished solid cooperation and exchange relations with some well-knowndomesticand international universities and research institutes ,including Republic ofMongolia, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, U.S.A., U.K., Germany, France,the Netherlands, Canada, and Australia. In 2009 IMNU was approved to admitinternational students pursuing a masters’ degree in teaching Chinese tospeakers of other languages.Over this years, the university has hired 300well-known experts and scholars from home and abroad, which including5ChineseAcademicians as academic advisors, guest professorsand part-time professors.
